Auberge des Ecrins

Auberge des Ecrins

The Auberge des Ecrins is located in the heart of the awe inspiring Champoléon Valley, one of the branches of the Champsaur Valley where we operate and run most of our activities, both in summer and winter. Its situation is quite ideal, not too far away from Orcières (the largest ski resort in the area) or Pont-du-Fossé, a lovely traditional alpine village - and at the same time far away from all the hustle and bustle of civilisation!

The Auberge des Ecrins has a new owner, Elisabeth, since 2019. She is a very hospitable host and will ensure you are well looked after when residing there.

There are 10 rooms in total. They are all ensuite and can sleep from 2 to 4 people. They are basic but comfortable rooms and offer everything one can expect from a traditional Auberge.

The on-site restaurant is decorated in a funky way - quite unexpected from a place located in such a remote alpine valley! - and offers a very good value for money, local cuisine. There is a bar as well (don't forget to try the famous local liquor called Génépi!), and concerts and events are organised on a regular basis, turning the whole place into a joyfully animated scene.

If you're staying at the Auberge, we highly recommend you visit the Maison du Berger, located just a few meters away: this place is probably one of the greatest and most comprehensive museums in France to get familiar with everything that revolves around pastoralism (the art of sheep herding). A fascinating place!

All in all, the Auberge des Ecrins is a very cosy place. Don't expect 4 star comfort, but it's generally a great little place to spend a few days in, meet the locals, and enjoy some of the most beautiful views in the area.

In the summer, it is a perfect location for mountain bikers (this is where you spend your first night when you do our famous Alps to Provence MTB Tour), as well as for hikers of all levels!
