Ice Climbing in the Alps

The Southern French Alps have some of the greatest variety and best ice climbing in the Alps. Ice climbers and mountaineers come from all over the world to climb the famous local routes, such as "Le Voile de La Mariée" in the Valgaudemar Valley, or the Freissinières Valley's falls in the Ecrins National Park.

However, you don't need to be an expert to ice climb here as there are waterfalls, ridges and gullies for all levels. It is the unique topography of the region that gives rise to the variety and diversity of waterfalls - from long steep technical routes to gentle beginner gullies.

The best time of year for ice climbing in the Southern French Alps is from December to March.

We use fully qualified UIAGM high mountain guides for ice climbing with a maximum of 6 beginners per guide or less for more technical climbing and 2 climbers per guide for multi-pitch routes. We choose our guides for their professionalism, local knowledge and expertise. They will look after your safety whilst making sure you have fun.
