Spring Activity Holidays

The spring; March, April and May, is an intense season for all living beings on earth: people, animals, vegetation.

In the mountains, when the cold, harsh days of the winter gradually give way to the warmth of the spring sunshine and longer daylight, there is a vibrant atmosphere of general rebirth, and it is probably one of the greatest feelings there is.

In all Undiscovered Mountains destinations, the spring has much to offer, and the fact that it is a transitional season between the cold and snow of the winter and the hot summer season allows a variety of activities much larger than one might think.

Ski and Snow Activity Holidays in Spring

In the Southern French Alps, the snow still covers the higher mountains and March and April are the best months of the year for ski touring holidays.  The snow pack is generally much more stable with spring snow conditions on south and west faces and powder skiing on the north and east faces.

The lower ski villages close around mid to end of March but the higher ski resorts are open until mid April so it is also a great time of year for a traditional ski holiday or a winter multi activity holiday if you haven't had your snow fix yet!

For cross country skiing, which is usually in the lower mountain valleys, Norway offers a perfect spring solution with snow still covering the northerly latitudes and the days quickly gaining in length making for ideal cross-country skiing adventures!

Hiking, Biking and Cycling Holidays in Spring

In the Southern French Alps the snow usually disappears from the lower valleys towards the end of March with the snowline gradually creeping upwards through April and May. The region’s ever-generous sun invites you to venture outside to admire the spectacular landscapes and get active!

Even though most mountains are still snow-capped, hiking, road cycling, mountain biking and e-biking possibilities are aplenty in the foothills and when comes May, the lower fields turn into amazing, multicolour sceneries. Our Alps to Provence e-biking Tour is a great trip to do in the Spring.

Spring in the Alps is a fabulous time of year for nature lovers with many of the large mammals congregating on the lush new pastures as the snow retreats making them easy to spot. Check out our wolf tracking adventure in the Alps and walking holiday in the foothills of the Alps.

In Nepal, spring is a highly popular time of year to choose a trekking holiday thanks to dry weather and perfect hiking conditions. Many of the trekking lodges open up again after the long winter and camping is pure heaven amongst the swathes of colourful flowers covering the high mountain prairies! Have a look at our Alternative Annapurna circuit trekking holiday to make the most of this exceptional time of year.

White Water Kayaking Holidays in Spring:

The Southern French Alps is a white water kayakers paradise and spring is the best time of year to experience it. The melting snow supercharges the powerful Alpine rivers making the roller coaster rapids the biggest and most fun of the year! Check out our white water kayaking holidays.

Other Reasons to Holiday in Spring:

All in all, there are many reasons why spring should be looked at with interest when planning on a holiday. With less tourists than in the busy winter and summer seasons, cheaper prices, mild temperatures, lush countryside and longer days, one could even state that it offers the best of both worlds!
