Undiscovered Mountains in the Southern French Alps is headed up by Sally Guillaume, who is also the founder of Undiscovered Mountains.
Before creating Undiscovered Mountains Sally spent 11 years running Undiscovered Alps, specialising in tailor made activity holidays in the Southern French Alps. Undiscovered Alps was indeed the inspiration for Undiscovered Mountains - it is here where it all began and the legacy continues!
Before evolving into Undiscovered Mountains in 2017, Undiscovered Alps were voted No 1 by the Guardian in it's Top 10 winter activity breaks in Europe and also featured regularly in newspapers and magazines like the Times, The Independent, Outdoor fitness, Adventure Travel, France Magazine and even The Week!
Sally chose the Southern French Alps as a destination after years of holidays in France, a dream to spend more time here, eventually finding this beautiful little corner that wasn't on the Brit's guide to the Alps and falling in love with it.
The first few years were tough, spent learning French, developing contacts in the area, learning about the tourist industry and setting up the company, all from a tiny studio apartment and as a single mum.
Then in 2009 to complete the picture... on one very memorable mountaineering trip Bernard, the high mountain guide, and Sally fell in love, made a baby, got married and now work together!
Their combined local knowledge and passion for the mountains make them the perfect people to host your stay in the Southern French Alps.
In 2014, JB, a local Frenchman and seasoned traveler, passionate about the Southern French Alps joined the team adding a third dimension of local knowledge and customer service.
The Southern French Alps was where Undiscovered Mountains started and will always hold a special place in my heart. I have 11 years experience in creating, running and managing activity holidays in the Alps and I believe very strongly in high customer service, quality activities that are delivered with guides and instructors, who are not only fully qualified with safety as their first priority but passionate and friendly too. I apply the same rules to our accommodation providers choosing quality place to stay with a friendly welcome. I believe in sustainable tourism so use small, local independent suppliers rather than big chains and believe this adds to the quality of the experience we provide.
I'm from Gap and have lived and worked in the mountains of the Southern French Alps all my life. I love the wildness and quiet of our mountains. I was an accompagnateur en montagne and a ski instructor before achieving my dream of becoming a UIAGM high mountain guide. I am passionate about anything to do with the mountains especially mountain wildlife and have been tracking the evolution of wolves in the Southern French Alps.
I was born and raised in the beautiful Southern French Alps - but truly realised how amazing this place is after having left it for several years. I spent half of my adult life living abroad in Germany, Sweden and the US and came back in 2010, found myself a beautiful old farmhouse to renovate and was offered this job by Sally a few years later - lucky me ! In the borderless world I dream of, I strongly believe in tourism not only as a way of making a living but as a way for people from different countries and cultures to mix and exchange. It is always a true pleasure for me to see our lovely clients from all over the world discover our little piece of paradise, meet our local guides and providers, and enjoy the peaceful local life as well as our many delicious terroir products.
