In search of a bit of a challenge this summer I ascended the Dome Des Ecrins with wonderful guides Bernard and Pierre. After never having worn a pair of crampons before, we had a fun and well scaffolded introduction to mountaineering skills on our two day acclimatisation.
The third day began with a 3am wake up call and our main objective of reaching the summit of the Dome Des Ecrins. This is an experience I will never forget. The views were spectacular and changed by the minute and due to having a few height related wobbles, the most challenging experience I've had so far. I felt well prepared and supported by Bernard and would highly recommend Undiscovered Mountains for anybody planning their first mountaineering experience.
The dorm style accommodation was warm and comfortable (if you remember your ear plugs) with the best views of any hotel I've ever stayed in. A four course meal was provided each night.
