The Agnielles Forestry Commission Refuge

The Agnielles Forestry Commission Refuge

The Forestry Commission in France have restored a number of old buildings situated in the midst of their vast terrain of natural wilderness and managed forest in the Alps.

This refuge is one of these amazing places in the heart of nature. They are not accessible to the public and can only be booked as a private reservation through one of the Forestry Commission's partners. We are lucky to be one of their partners and can offer you exclusive access to this amazing refuge as part of a "Retrouvance©" (meaning re-discovery) walking or mountain biking holiday.

The refuge has 5 ensuite twin bedrooms and a twin and double room with shared bathroom with a total capacity of 14 people. Water comes from a nearby source and there is a water heating facility and limited electricity but enough for lighting and basics. There's a lounge with cosy wood-burner for those cool autumn or spring evenings and a large dining room.

The Agnielle valley is a deep sided valley eroded into the spectacular limestone Devoluy massive and is famous for its rich wildlife. People come from far and wide to hear the stag rut in late September early October every year.
