The French Forestry Commission have restored a number of old buildings situated in the midst of their vast terrain of natural wilderness and managed forest in the Alps.
This refuge is one of these amazing places situated at the top of a wild Alpine valley in the abandoned village of Chaudun in the heart of the mountains with mouflon, wild boar, chamois and wolves in the vicinity. This refuge is not open to the public and can only be booked as a private reservation through one of the Forestry Commission's partners. We are lucky to be a Forestry Commission partner and can offer you exclusive access to this amazing refuge as part of a "Retrouvance©" (meaning re-discovery) walking or mountain biking holiday.
The refuge has 5 twin or triple dormitory style bedrooms with a total capacity of 12 people. Water comes from a nearby source and there is a water heating facility and limited electricity but enough for lighting and basics. There's a lounge with cosy wood-burner for those cool autumn or spring evenings and a large dining room.
