All technical and specialist equipment for activities is included unless otherwise specified. This is a guide for your personal clothing and other useful items to help you pack for your autumn activity holiday. Some items are activity-specific.
The time of year you are coming on holiday will also determine what you need. In autumn, temperatures can range from crisp and cool to surprisingly warm during the day (10-25°C). However, mornings and evenings are much cooler, and weather in the mountains can change rapidly, including occasional early snowfall. Be prepared for a variety of conditions, including rain, wind, and the drop in temperature when you head up to higher altitudes.
It’s also important to remember that for every 100 metres of altitude, the temperature drops by approximately 1 degree.

Essential Clothing & Footwear
- Walking Boots or Walking Trainers – Waterproof boots are highly recommended for autumn as trails can be wet or muddy. They’re essential for any mountain hikes, offering good ankle support. For paragliding, they also help with landing stability.
- Waterproof Trainers – Closed-toe trainers that can get wet are needed for water sports like canyoning or kayaking. Ensure they have good grip. Old sport trainers are a good option.
- Waterproof Jacket and Trousers – A must for autumn weather to keep you dry during sudden rain showers and cooler, windy days in the mountains. Opt for breathable materials for comfort.
- Warm Layers – Bring fleece jackets, thermal tops, or lightweight jumpers. A base layer that wicks away moisture will keep you comfortable during activities, and a thicker mid-layer will provide insulation. Consider thermal leggings or trousers for colder days or early morning starts.
- Full-Length Trousers and Long-Sleeved Tops – For activities like climbing or horse riding, opt for trousers that won’t catch on gear. Layers are key so you can adjust to the weather throughout the day.
- Hat, Gloves, and Scarf – Essential for high-altitude activities, chilly mornings, or if you’re camping. Thin gloves and a warm hat are recommended for paragliding and walking.
- Warm Hat & Gloves for High-Altitude Adventures – Bring a warm, fleecy hat and gloves if you plan on high mountain walking or alpine summits. Early snow is possible in October!
- Swimwear – Be mindful of local pool rules – only fitted trunks are allowed in public swimming pools in France.
