Kayaking the Serre-Ponçon Lake
Situated in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes is the largest dammed lake in Western Europe, the Serre-Ponçon lake. With its beautiful turquoise waters, 80km of shoreline, natural creeks and coves and stunning mountain backdrop, it is a true paradise for kayaking!
The base we use for lake kayaking on the Serre-Ponçon lake is the "Baie St Michel", which is a popular lake beach with water skiing, tubing, high ropes adventure, bouncy castles and other activities as well as a snack-bar which makes it a great option for a day out with kayaking. As part of any of our summer activity holidays you can choose self-guided kayak hire which we will organise for you from here so you can go off at your own pace to explore the coves and beaches from the bay.
Overnight Guided Kayak Adventure
New for 2019 Undiscovered Mountains are pleased to be able to offer an exclusive guided overnight kayak adventure. This is available as one of many activity choices possible for clients booking onto our Summer Activity Holiday. It is also possible to ask for a tailor made quote for a weekend trip with a possibility to extend the expedition for a second night. Please contact us about this.
The kayaking adventure starts at one end of the lake and finishes at the other! Your guide will guide you along the lake-side stopping off at secluded beaches and coves for you to explore. On the first day you will stop at the Baie de St Michel where you can purchase lunch at the snack bar or a picnic and make the most of a swim and sunbathe and even try out another of the many watersports available from here before heading off to your overnight location.
You will camp overnight in the gardens of a lakeside residence which the owner has kindly made available to Undiscovered Mountains for this trip. The owner will provide your BBQ dinner, breakfast and picnic for the next day as well as giving you access to her sanitary facilities. Camping equipment is included.
The following day, you will discover the wilder side of the lake with many secret coves and creeks to explore, before arriving at the Bois Vieux beach at the end of the day where you will finish your trip.
You will be able to pack an overnight bag which will be dropped off at your overnight stay and collected on your way back after the trip, so you don't have to kayak with all your belongings for the trip!
