If you are a cycling club looking for some warm weather and high col training, or a group of cycling enthusiasts wanting a taste of the Tour de France, this trip is a perfect option.
A week of cycling heaven climbing some of the famous Tour de France cols, beautiful alpine scenery and the opportunity to taste some of the other activities and adventures the Alps has to offer.
If you are a fan of the Tour de France, cols such as Alpe d'Huez, Col D'Izoard, Col du Galibier, Col de Manse and Col du Noyer, will be household names. Gap, where this trip is based from has hosted the Tour de France 20 times and is a perfect location to access these famous cols!
During this trip, you have five vehicle supported rides which include a vehicle and driver at your disposition during the day for emergency repairs, food stops at the top of cols and along the way and of course the possibility of being picked up if your legs turn to lead!
We will discuss the various cycling options with you when you book and tailor make an itinerary based on your abilities and ambitions!
Although it is amazing to be a spectator at the Tour it isn’t the best time to come cycling for yourself as the roads are busy with tourists. The best time to cycle in the region is May - July and September – October. This is when the cols are more traffic free, it's warm but not baking and the light on the mountains is beautiful.
Have a look at our road cycling kit list for advise on what to bring on this holiday.
If you are planning to come with your own bikes for this trip, it is best to avoid flying as you will need to take your bike apart to fly and then put it back together again when you are here and there is always the risk of losing it on the plane (especially if there are a few people with bikes on the same plane).
It’s a 9 hour drive non-stop from Calais and most people do it with an overnight stopover. The big advantage of driving is that then you have your car here for exploring, getting about and really making the most of your time in the area. You can also hire a car, either at a nearby airport or directly in Gap, the main city locally. Check out our partner's hire car rates.
If you take the train, the nearest station is Gap which has rail links from Marseilles, Grenoble, Valence and Paris (including an overnight sleeper). Have a look at our how to get here page for more details.
We can help you organise your train journey here and have local timetables if you need them.
