Why Norway?

With Norway's northerly latitudes it is a reliable snow sure destination and a natural choice for a cross country ski and winter activity holiday. Norway is the home of nordic skiing and cross country skiing so this is the perfect location to experience and practice this fabulous and very addictive sport as well as some of the other classic snow activities!

What's a Hytte?

A huge part of Norwegian culture is to go cross country skiing between 'hytter' which are small mountain cabins nestled in the wilderness with just a wood burner for energy! One in three Norwegian families own a hytte and locals will spend the holidays visiting each other by ski in their hytter.  There are also government owned hytter which anyone can visit for a fee.

To share this uniquely Norwegian culture with you and so you can really experience the ethos behind nordic and cross country skiing, your trip culminates in an overnight expedition to a hytte where you will ski in with your food and equipment for a real Norwegian adventure in the wilderness!

Holiday Overview

Every morning for the first three days will be spent learning and honing your cross country skiing techniques and skills before heading out for a fun afternoon cross country skiing with either an orienteering or wildlife tracking theme. One afternoon will be shifted forwards so you can experience night skiing - definitely a bucket list tick! All good experience for your hytte expedition!

Wednesday will be your free day, and as with many of our holidays you have 3 activity points per person included in your package which you can use to try out another winter activities such as husky sledding, snowshoeing, a ride in a horse drawn sleigh or ice fishing (ice fishing is only available in school holidays). There is also the option of yoga that can be purchased with your activity points in the hotel.

The last two days of your trip will be the big expedition, cross country skiing out to a remote hytte and staying overnight. This is what cross country skiing in Norway is all about - a real adventure Norwegian style!

Who Would Love This Trip?

You don't need to have had any experience of cross country skiing to participate in this trip but a good level of fitness is required. You need to be comfortable running a 5km run or going for a days hike in the hills to be able to enjoy this trip! If you love being outdoors in the wilds of nature, like snow and are fit and sporty, this trip is for you!

Families are very welcome and this is a fabulous adventure to experience en famille. We suggest a minimum age of 10 for children but what is most important is that they are active and sporty with a sense of adventure and have the endurance to be able to stay outside in the cold for several hours. Please call us to discuss your family make up and requirements if you are unsure whether this trip will be suitable for your children.
