Refuge de la Blanche

Refuge de la Blanche

The Refuge de la Blanche is situated at 2499m, 10km from the highest village in France, Saint Veran. It is the perfect refuge for access to the beautiful Queyras Regional Nature Park, a mecca for ski tourers in winter and a walkers and mountaineers in summer.

The refuge has been entirley refurbished into a fully functioning modern refuge with excellent facilities including hot showers, running water and toilets! It is self sufficient and uses solar power and hydraulic power for energy and natural spring water for it's water source. Resources are precious in a refuge so please respect them.

There are seven dormitories in total sleeping between 4 and 10 people. They are nicely arranged with traditional alpine bunks and sheets and blankets. Please note a sleeping bag liner is recommended as bedding cannot be washed after every guest in a refuge.

There is a bar and restaurant serving refreshments throughout the day and the food is very good - you will be amazed what can be rustled up at 2500m. Overnighters will be treated to a good evening meal on a set menu and breakfast.

Francois and his team will give you a warm welcome at the Refuge de La Blanche between January and April and June and September.

Policies

Resources such as water, electricity (solar) and food are hard to come by in a refuge so please respect this and don't waste energy, water or food. Showers are a luxury so please don't empty the water reservoir! It is not possible to charge phones or cameras in the refuge.

All items brought up to the refuge including any rubbish must be taken back out.

The staff run a tight schedule so that they can feed everyone and clean the refuge to a good standard. Their timetables and rules must be respected.

There are baskets in the refuge for you to put your belongings in to keep the refuge tidy. Please do not leave your belongings lying around the refuge. Outdoor shoes are not permitted inside the refuge and slippers are provided. All mountaineering hardware must be left in the locker room.

Dinner is served at 7pm and you must be there at least 30 mins before this time as the staff will be too busy preparing and serving dinner to be able to welcome you.

If you are planning a mountaineering summit, you will be woken up in the early morning between 4 and 5 am and served breakfast. Walkers and other guests' breakfast is served between 7 and 9am. Ski touring starts depend on weather, time of year and conditions. All dormitories must be vacated by 9am and left as you found them and you must take any rubbish away with you.
