The French Forestry Commission have restored a number of old buildings situated in the midst of their vast terrain of natural wilderness and managed forest in the Alps.
The Sauvas refuge is one of these amazing refuges situated in the cirque of Sauvas underneath the dramatic Pic de Bure mountain. These refuges are not openly accessible to the public and can only be booked as a private reservation through one of the Forestry Commission's partners. We are lucky to be a Forestry Commission partner and can offer you exclusive access to this amazing refuge as part of a "Retrouvance©" (meaning re-discovery) walking or mountain biking holiday.
The refuge has 3 twin or triple dormitory style bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and toilet and 2 twin rooms with shared sanitary facilities. Water comes from a nearby source and there is a water heating facility and limited electricity but enough for lighting and basics. There's a lounge with cosy wood-burner for those cool autumn or spring evenings and a large dining room.
