Discover ski touring on this 4-day hut-to-hut journey through the serene Queyras mountains in the French Alps.
Location: Queyras, French Alps
Step into the world of ski touring with this unforgettable 4-day hut-to-hut adventure in the Queyras, a remote and spectacular region of the French Alps tucked along the Italian border. Designed for strong piste skiers with some experience off-piste and with a good level of fitness, this trip is your gateway to the serene, crowd-free world of ski touring — no prior experience needed.
Over four immersive days, you’ll learn the core skills of ski touring: how to use your equipment, move efficiently uphill on skins, master kick turns, and understand avalanche safety basics. All of this unfolds in the peaceful, powder-dusted valleys and forests of the Queyras Regional Park — far from the buzz of busy ski resorts.
Your journey includes three nights in warm, characterful mountain refuges: two nights in a welcoming base refuge where you'll settle in and learn the ropes, followed by a mini traverse to a second high-mountain hut for your final night — the perfect taste of true hut-to-hut touring. One of the days includes a tour with a lighter pack, giving you freedom to move and focus on technique while soaking up the winter magic around you.
Led by passionate local guides, you’ll experience not just the thrill of skiing in wild terrain, but also the charm of alpine culture — think wood-panelled refuges, hearty mountain meals, and evenings by the fire surrounded by fellow adventurers.
Ski touring in the backcountry is an exhilarating way to explore the mountains — but it also comes with serious responsibilities. Travelling off-piste in winter means navigating avalanche terrain, variable snow conditions, and remote alpine environments where careful planning and real-time decision-making are crucial. That’s why safety is central to every aspect of this trip.
You’ll be accompanied by a UIAGM high mountain guide — an internationally certified professional trained to the highest level in snow safety, mountain navigation, and group management. To ensure close support and expert supervision, we keep our group sizes small, with a maximum of seven clients per guide. From teaching you how to use your avalanche safety equipment to choosing the safest lines and adapting to daily conditions, your guide will help you build confidence while keeping you safe in the wild winter landscape.
This adventure is ideal for confident piste skiers with some experience off piste in different snow conditions and good fitness who are itching to explore beyond the ski lifts. If you’ve dreamed of accessing wild, off-the-beaten-path terrain under your own steam — but want expert guidance and a welcoming, beginner-friendly approach — this is the perfect first step into the world of ski touring.
You don’t need any previous touring experience, just a sense of adventure, a love for wild landscapes, and the skills to handle varied snow conditions off-piste.
To ensure the safety of the group, the guide reserves the right to ask any participant to leave the trip if it becomes clear they are not physically capable or technically prepared to complete the tour safely. This is rare, but necessary in such a dynamic mountain environment.
Being well-prepared and honest about your ability helps ensure a fun, safe, and rewarding experience for everyone on the journey. Check out our ski touring kit list to get prepared with the essentials.
