Alyson Tapp - Guided Snowshoeing Holiday in the Alps

April 2024

Résumé

We had a fabulous time on the group snowshoeing holiday. We travelled from the UK by train to Gap. The snowshoeing walks took us over varied terrain in different parts of the Champsaur Valley - larch forests, plateaus, snowy bowls surrounded by mountains, with options, for those who wanted, to go on further to ridges and summits. Our two guides, Bernard and Marie, were great, and as well as supporting the group, they shared with us knowledge of the area, especially the local wildlife encountered through many animal tracks (but also including a grand finale sighting of chamois on the final day). The group made for excellent company, and the accommodation at the Grange des Ecrins was a delightful, comfortable home-from-home to return to at the end of each day. The dinners were really super - and included lots of local produce, as well as many creative touches. It really felt that this holiday was thoughtfully and genuinely embedded in its local setting, and we really enjoyed that. One of us had snowshoed before, one never: both of us loved it and returned home feeling really well and relaxed, with lots of great memories of the views & adventures and of the shared stories, laughs & experiences.
