Fiona Craighead - Winter Multi Activity Holiday in the Alps

January 2025

Overview

This holiday was to celebrate a number of big birthdays in the family, and it did not disappoint in making memories that we will all remember. Sally was very helpful in the planning stages and answered every question we had, however seemingly small! Our flights got cancelled and we had to move dates, and nothing was too much trouble for her. The Hotel Les Catrems was spot on. The staff were extremely friendly, nothing too much trouble for them, and the rooms nice and warm. The hotel owner now considers itself a B&B, since there is no dinner service, but there is a spacious breakfast room and an cosy bar/lounge. It is worth pointing out though that the lounge and bar close at about 7.30pm when the staff finish their shift, so there is no evening bar service, or social space to spend time in, which was a bit of a shame. The biathlon and husky experiences were both well delivered, and quite immersive, with good instructors. We chose to ski for a couple of days, and the weather was picture-perfect, so it went well even for those of us who hadn’t skied for 25years! Snowshoeing was a surprising hit - what a way to enjoy the fresh air and scenery. Local restaurants were all very good , but be sure to book (Jules, our Undiscovered Mountains contact, helped daily with this!) as they tend to be quite small. Getting around the village was pretty easy on foot, and there’s also a free local bus service. The Vamoos App is a valuable tool for the holiday, making sure you have your itinerary, maps and vouchers to hand all the time, but I did appreciate still being given paper piste maps at the induction! Many thanks to the team for organising a great program for us. I’m not sure how long the mountains will remain “undiscovered” with you there!
