You can be based in the main ski resort of Orcières 1850 for this holiday or in one of the many pretty alpine villages scattered along the Champsaur valley outside of the main ski resort.
The main advantages of being in Orcières are the range of restaurants, shops, swimming pool and other facilities on your doorstep. It is easy to get to and all the activities are accessible on public transport. However, it is generally more expensive and the majority of accommodation options are in large apartment residences.
The main advantages of staying in the ski villages for your winter holiday, are to be away from the big resort ambiance and experience a more traditional French alpine ambiance in a pretty village. There is a greater choice of accommodation from chalets to farmhouse bed and breakfasts to hotels and it is generally cheaper. However, you do need a car to get around.
Have a look at our winter activity holiday kit list for advice on what to pack.
If you would like a more ski focused holiday for all or some of your party have a look at our Ski Adventure Holiday which is a ski based winter activity holiday.

If you are based in the ski resort of Orcières, there are a range of public transfer services and local trains from the nearest major airports (Marseilles and Grenoble) and TGV stations (Grenoble and Aix-en-Provence). The majority of activities are all resort based or accessible on free public transport.
However, if you are in one of the alpine villages, we highly recommend you self drive to get to and from activities and explore the area in your free time as there is limited public transport. Check out our partner's hire car rates.
