The route forms a natural circuit through varied alpine terrain, from broad open valleys and frozen lakes to steeper slopes and more committing passes. Each day brings a new stage of the journey, with the chance to travel deeper into the mountains and experience the quiet rhythm of refuge-to-refuge touring.

Led by a UIAGM-qualified mountain guide, the itinerary remains flexible so that each day can be adapted to the weather, snow conditions and the group. Evenings are spent in welcoming mountain huts, where hearty meals, shared stories and simple alpine hospitality are all part of the experience. Starting and finishing in Névache and easily accessed from Briançon, this small-group trip combines a classic Cerces circuit with the added reward of summiting Mont Thabor along the way.

You need to get to Névache for this trip which is a small village accessible by bus from Briançon. We can give you the bus times and help you plan your journey once you have booked.

Briançon is a fascinating town with its Vauban fortress situated in the heart of the southern French Alps and well worth a visit if you want to extend your trip.

By Train

  • From Paris SNCF operates a direct night train (Intercités de nuit) from Paris Austerlitz to Briançon, offering an efficient time saving overnight journey. Alternatively, daytime services are available with a transfer at Valence or Grenoble, taking approximately 6 to 9 hours in total.
  • From Marseille: There are direct TER trains from Marseille to Briançon, with the fastest journeys taking approximately 4 hours and 35 minutes. This route offers a scenic journey through the Alps. 

By Plane:

From Turin Airport (Italy)

If you're flying into Turin Airport, there are transfers directly to Briançon with Linkbus  or you can reach Briançon via public transport by getting the train from Turin Caselle Airport to Torino Porta Susa station and then from there to  Oulx-Cesana-Clavière-Sestrières where there is a regular bus to Briançon.

From Marseille Airport:

From Marseille airport you can get the shuttle to the main Marseille St Charles station and then the train to Briançon from there (see above). A long but beautiful journey!
