Andrew Hopkin - Road Cycling Holiday

December 2017

Overview

We had a fabulous holiday. The organised routes were excellent. Our guide was very attentive and knowledgeable and the support vehicle welcome at all stages of the trip. The holiday was a great combination of a challenge ( those hills are steep !!) but  also relaxing with our host at Granges D’Ecrins making our stay very comfortable and feeding us like Kings !!

Accommodation

Both the accommodation and our hosts Jean and Meg  could not have been better. Their attention to detail in everything they did and the care with which they had obviously thought through our stay was obvious. Delicious food , good wine and local beer combined with Jean’s accounts of the Tour De France made it a really enjoyable stay.  I was really touched when Jean found out that the trip was to celebrate my 50th birthday and opened a bottle of champagne and served canapes that night – you don’t get more generous and welcoming hosts than that. Please go to the Grange – you won’t regret it.

Activity

The routes we took and the area we visited were quite fabulous as were the efforts of JB who drove the support vehicle. A mix of tough routes and steadier parts. The trip around  Serre Pencon was very impressive. Feedback wise the bikes we hired were adequate ( just ) but thought needs to be given to a better supplier. However it was a very minor blemish only and the overall cycling experience was excellent
