This holiday is just like our highly popular customisable summer activity holiday with one big difference! We have tried to be as plastic free as possible. You can choose from a wide range of our least plastic dependent activities to tailor make your ideal activity holiday!

After reading all the reports about the impact of plastic on the environment we decided to take a look at ourselves! We realised that even though we try to be as ethically responsible as we can to protect the local environment and economies of the destinations we send people to, we use a lot of plastic, especially on our multi activity holidays.

Most mountain activities depend on plastic in some form or other: helmets are plastic, kayaks are plastic, there is plastic in ropes, paragliding parachutes, rucksacks, our minibuses include plastic and our accommodation providers provide picnics in plastic bags!

The days of hessian ruck sacks and hobnail boots are over and we will never go back to that. Plastics have given us high performance, lightweight equipment and made it possible for us to access the mountain playground safely and comfortably, opening the door to everyone.

However, that doesn't mean we can't do better and be more responsible. We spent some time analysing our plastic impact. You can read our blog about the challenge of creating this plastic free activity holiday. We concluded that where we could really make a difference was by eliminating single use plastics or plastic items with a short life from our activities and accommodations.

We have chosen a selection of activities where plastic is only justifiably used for the safe running of the activity, eg ropes and helmets for this holiday. This eliminated pretty much all water sports so we decided to leave canyoning in as the least plastic dependent water sport!

All of our guides and instructors and the Grange des Ecrins accommodation, where you will be staying, have pledged to remove single use plastic from their activities and services for the month of September - our plastic free month!

During this holiday you will also experience a night in a refuge. Refuges are very waste conscious as they have to carry all their rubbish out - the bin lorries can't drive up the mountains! As September is the end of the season for the refuges we hope you will help them to carry down their rubbish on your way out - no obligation ...!

The nearest major city is Gap which is just south of Grenoble and north of Marseilles. Gap has a train station which links to the major TGVs such as Aix-en-Provence and Lyon and also has a night train directly from Paris. The nearest airports are Marseilles, Grenoble or Lyon but Nice, Turin and Geneva are also drivable distance.

We highly recommend you self drive rather than let us drive you to and from the activities. The area has so much to offer and for you to explore in your free time and public transport is limited. Check out our partner's hire car rates.

However, if you are a group with a full itinerary and would like a quote for a transport included holiday, please just let us know when you make your enquiry.
