  • The Southern French Alps is famous for its white water and kayakers from all over the world come here to sample its alpine rivers with stunning mountain scenery. From grade II to grade V all within an hour of each other, there is a huge amount of choice in a relatively small space!

The week will start with an intensive session on the grade II /III Drac river. This will give you and the instructor the opportunity to gauge your level and plan the rest of the week accordingly. After the first session your instructor will plan an itinerary to make the most of the local rivers, show you the best play spots and push you to your potential. A great way to explore the rivers of the Southern Alps in all their glory and have lots of fun!

This trip is aimed at kayakers who are competent grade 3 white water river paddlers who wish to gain confidence and progress on to grade 4 rapids. You will learn plenty of technical skills including how to read and work the river and manoeuvre your boat in the most efficient way so expect lots of playing on rapids as well as traditional descents. This is a great fun trip to get the most out of a kayak trip to the Alps without possessing years and years of kayaking experience!

Paddle the Drac Noir (grade IV), the Drac Blanc (grade III+), the Drac (grade II - IV), the Severaisse (grade III - IV), the Bonne (grade IV - VI), the Souloise (grade IV), all draining the snow and glacier melt from the largest mountains in the Southern Alps in the Ecrins National Park. Or on the other side of the Serre Poncon lake paddle the Durance (II - IV), the Ubaye (grade III - IV) or the Guil (grade III - IV). Our guides will choose the best rivers for you based on the conditions when you are here!

All our kayak instructors are fully qualified to French and European standards. They are very experienced kayakers with lots of local knowledge and will have a keen eye on your safety.

For your free day you also have three activity points that you can use for a range of activities including canyoning, via ferrata, rock climbing, horse riding... and many more. A great opportunity to try some of the other fabulous activities the Alps has to offer!

Have a look at our kayaking kit list for advice on what to pack.
